Right. I won't name names (of course because I don't disparage other writers for any reason) but I've snickered over language use in some of the older fan fics. I do think that comes down to the time period in which it was written. Also, I think it might be in some ways generational.
I've never once heard my mother use the word "cock" but she'll read books where the word is used. She said she would prefer that they say "erection" but that's a personal preference because "cock" isn't sexy to her.
My reply to that is always -- "Cock is sexy but unfortunately there are times when the man attached to it is a complete dick and it ruins the whole thing for me."
