5 Books On My Desk

The fact is that I mostly buy ebooks these days but our house is loaded down with print books that we bought before we had devices for ebook reading because both my husband and I are both avid readers. He also has a serious hard-on for audio books. Nine times out of ten, he's listening to audio book on his mp3 player instead of actual music.

1. The 15th Edition of the Chicago Style Manual (because I'm currently editing an article for a magazine that is due next week)

2. Master/slave Relations: Handbook of Theory and Practice by Dr. Robert J. Rubel (because I'm considering scenarios for the next TTB story)

3. Killers: The Most Barbaric Murderers of Our Times by Nigel Cawthorne (professional project research)

4. He Shall Thunder in the Sky by Elizabeth Peters (because it's my favorite book in that series)

5. The Shelter of Stone by Jean Auel (because a new book in this series is coming out soon and I was brushing up on it so I could be prepared for the hardcore reading session I'll have on my Kindle when it comes out)

The things that you read. :)

And #5? Yeah. I suppose I should reread the whole series, but I did that often enough when I was younger to burn them into my mind. :: Sigh :: Hopefully it will be well done.

Reading is my first love- I bought my ereader for Christmas and it's my favourite toy. I still love to read in print as well but the instant gratification of downloading ebooks is hard to beat. I have a small bookcase by my bed that holds my three favourite (long) series authors: Elizabeth Peters, J.D Robb, and Janet Evanovich. I like audio books as well for when I'm doing something where I need my hands free but I have to have read the book first, I'm too impatient to find out what happens to wait. I loved Stephen Fry's narration of the Harry Potter series and I want to start the Outlander series soon (each book is over a gigabyte in size- that's alot of listening). I have a hard time picking a favourite Peters book but He Shall Thunder is the Sky is in my top three, along with: The Ape Who Guards the Ballance and Children of the Storm.

10 Big Ones is on my "night table" and Betrayal in Death is in my purse. *grins* Does anyone else read multiple books at a time?

I'm intrigued by number 2! (Also excited over the thought of more TTB, even if it's months away *g*)

I have to admit, when I write kink, I go on instinct, based on my own analysis of the characters from canon and my BSc in Psychology.

Woah, that's huge! I can understand your dilemma *g* You mentioned a violet wand in "In the Flames". I'd be very interested to see that or the electrified whip from "Whatever it Takes" in action.

hooora some more to read !
I have three counts to read books online in pdf format and i love that (Goodreads, Smashwords, torquere).
I read the whole series of "the velvet glove" by Sean Michael and it's one of my fav after TTB.
If someone wants it i can share.

* (because I'm considering scenarios for the next TTB story)*

Fucking tease ;-)

And H5.0 Why so pretty and slashy ?

Sounds good! I was thinking the other day, when I re-read the series for the billionth time that we haven't seen much of Elizabeth/Radek in private. And I like Declan/Sean as well.

I shall take these happy thoughts off to work with me today *g*

A new Clan of the Cave Bear novel? Cool, I didn't realize there was another one on the way. Thank you!!

Is it creepy to say that I love you cause you take your writing so seriously? ...Probably, but that doesn't change the fact. :)

Eclectic reading list! Also, thanks, I didn't realise Jean Auel was writing a new book at the moment. I will also have to go back and reread the series. Now where are they........

What fandom is Velvet Glove? I probably want to read anything that's being honestly compared to TTB.

[identity profile] fanarts-series.livejournal.com 2011-03-21 12:31 pm (UTC)(link)
It's a original series of books and i found that really good, i can send you book one if you want to make yourself a opinion.

Chase/Ethan and Morley/Grant in exhib sound so good and naughty, totally support that.

Jean Auel- The release date for the new book is 3/29. I was so excited I broke my rule about reading reviews and it got panned and messed with my excitement. Which is why I have that rule in the first place.

I need to find someone who owns a kindle to look at and play with. I've been avoiding them because of the screen size. I read so fast that I don't think the screen size/refresh rate will keep up. But maybe they've fixed those limitations. I imagine you read pretty fast.

I can't do audio books. Unless I'm trapped in a moving vehicle, I'll get distracted and tune it out. Which is odd, because when I'm reading, I can tune out the whole rest of the world in favor of my internal movie.

Doesn't everyone have a Chicago Manual of Style on their desk?

I don't usually like girls in my porn, but I'm very curious to hear what 'fucks like a God' Carson and Miko are getting up to.

You've been messaged. Yes, please.

I send a rar of the 5 books, good reading.

It's been so long that I can't remember whether I even finished Shelters of Stone! The lady does work at a deliberate pace.

#2 sounds as if someone has managed to extract the titillating fun out of BDSM and make it all academic-like. Fortunately, we have you to fix that for us. ;)

I have on my nightstand or in my work bag:

Best friends forever
by Weiner, Jennifer.

Burning wild /
by Feehan, Christine.

The search /
by Roberts, Nora.

Sizzling sixteen /
by Evanovich, Janet.

and a box of Girl Scout Thin Mint cookies. Just as important as the books, I believe.

BTW, all the books are from the local library. I usually only buy books they dont carry, which are mostly paperback, like the Lynsay Sands Vampire series.

I love my Kindle, but I find myself still preferring printed books when reading non-fiction. I think its because its so much easier to flip back and forth if i need to review a concept or fact from earlier in the book. The "find location" function is kind of a pain to use, in my opinion.

Ive been thinking recently that I'm about due for a complete Elizabeth Peters reread. she's one of my all time favorites!

:boggles:

"Taking some work." It isn't showing that I can see! The key to TTB exhibition or any other dirty scene (yes, I'm still chortling over you correspondent) for me is how in tune the participants are.

Your later response below about "rounding out" put some perspective on this comment, though; the most detailed activity as been around the SM pairings. My interest is incredibly piqued with respect to who all we're going to get a look at next.

I love to read too! Once I was able to read I started reading harder and harder books. I started reading high school/college level books between 4th and 6th grade. And I used to read 100s of books in a year, and like a dozen in a week. I started reading less when I got my own computer and started spending more time on the internet, but I still do read a lot, more than any of my friends, in fact I've finished four (about to be 5) books in the last week. I also, somehow, finished the last Harry Potter book in less than 24 hours; I started at like noon once I got it, and finished at like 3 a.m., and I was interrupted multiple times because it was the first day of camp and I had to get all settled in and stuff. It all comes from my father's side of the family, he has this whole little library that I spend most of my afternoons in; there is also a bookshelf in my parents room, and three down in the basement (two of which come up to about my hips height wise and are almost as tall as I am length wise) that filled with his books. And then I have a bookshelf in my room, one on the landing outside my door, and two giant ones down in the basement. I absolutely love books. I've been reading more ebooks too though, they just make traveling easier. I have a Kindle (dad got one for me, my mom, and my sister after he got his), but I read my ebooks on my iPad (Christmas gift, again, all four of us have one [my grandparents have one too]) because it simulates an actual book because when you "turn the page", you don't click a button, you drag your finger across the screen and it looks like your turning the page, I love it.

What's on my iPad right now:
#1 "Arrows" trilogy by Mercedes Lackey
#2 "Winds of Fate" by Mercedes Lackey
#3 "Exile's Valor" by Mercedes Lackey (sensing a trend? she's one of my favorite authors)
#4 "By the Sword" by Mercedes Lackey (All of the ebooks I have by her are ALL from her Valdemar Universe [the books for this universe covers about 3000 years of history and they are amazing])
#5 "Reserved for the Cat" by Mercedes Lackey (audiobook, from her Elemental Masters universe [Victorian era England, with elemental magic; beautifully written; absolutely amazing books])
#6 "A Game of Thrones" by George R.R. Martin (first in the Song of Ice and Fire series, absolutely amazing books; I'm re-reading the first one because HBO is making it into a tv series that's being released in April, and it's partially directed by the author so it should be awesome and really close to the book. And on top of all that, Jason Momoa plays a really sexy, always shirtless, tattooed, long haired, vicious yet gentle with his woman, chieftain of a nomadic (they're horse people), warrior tribe; I was drooling the first time I saw him in his full get up, it was really fucking hot)

Sorry about the long comment, but, if you hadn't noticed yet, I'm really opinionated/talkative when it comes to things I'm passionate about.

five books on my actual desk and not on the bookshelf next to it:
1) National Audubon Society Field Guide to North American Insects & Spiders (still more than a foot of snow outside but I'm already planning my first "going bug watching" expedition)

2)The Great Transformation, The Beginning of Religious Traditions by Karen Armstrong. Very interestig book.

3) The Tenant of Wildfell Hall by Anne Bronte. So far I like her book more than her sisters. Don't tell Emily and Charlotte.

4) The Best Loved Poems of the American People selected by Hazel Felleman. Originally my grandma x's book, I got it when she passed away. She wrote notes in the margin so whenever I miss her, I can read a poem and her notes and feel as if we've had a conversation.

5) A History of Piracy by Robert de la Croix. I haven't started this one and only got it from a flea market because of the title. I should see if the book is as interesting as the title.
