I'm sitting in the cafe for the first time in what feels like months. I try not to go out in public and spread my germs around if I have a choice. Additionally, I've felt like hell so being out in public was dangerous for other people since I'm evil when I'm really sick.

I'm still probably too bitchy for public to be honest. Flu+Head Cold+Pneumonia in the course of a three month period is bullshit. Especially since I had vaccines for both the flu and pneumonia and both of those shots kind of fucking hurt! I sent my doctor hate email and she called my house to laugh at me. She's obviously a cunt and I need a new doctor but she did fill some prescriptions and stuff on the phone so I wouldn't have to get in the car to see her three times in the same week. Saw her today, her bedside manner is lacking OR I bring out the worst in doctors.

Stuck Up Writer Friend who has been absent from the cafe since he got a "day" job is around this afternoon having taken vacation. Who the hell takes vacation in December and then doesn't bother to go anywhere warm and tropical? I told him how foolish I thought he was. He retaliated by asking me to read his newest manuscript which I've taken to calling Moby Dick: Part Deux when he's not around and have told him more than once that he needs to stop watching those deep sea fishing reality tv shows--they are rotting his brain.

Sci-Fi Writer put in a proposal to write a Star Trek book. I'm kind of excited about the project and his partial is excellent. His agent is pretty confident the project will sell so that's cool. Yes, I'm tempted to do the same BUT I know my subtext would be so insane that I'd never get away with writing a book for that franchise.

Snotty Chicklit Writer is being interviewed by a local college student today--she's over on the other side of the cafe with her fake professional writer persona firmly in place. She wore a SWEATER SET. It's pink with little candy canes for buttons. I took pictures. She might never live that shit down.

As always, when I'm sick I spend time reading in the Harry Potter fandom. I don't know why I torture myself with this fandom but that's neither here nor there. What the hell is up with those people on fanfiction.net INSISTING authors warn for Slash? God help the person who tries to tell me I need to warn for slash or het. Just sayin'.

I don't think your subtext should be out of place in the Star Trek book world! You should read some of the older novellas, those were some loooooong love letters to K/S! In Star Trek you can get away with it, especially in TOS, in Star Wars you can't even write a semi-coherent sex scene between a canon couple with 3 kids *sigh*

Um, why are you reading stuff at FF.net? It's bad for you! LOL Also FF does not allow explicit sex and various other things. You can get more saucy fics at AFF.net and hpfandom.net (I actually prefer HPFandom for fic). Granted my preferred OTP in HP is not Darry/Draco, so I could be wrong or something.

You know, I haven't decided if folks want to be warned about slash because they don't want to read it... or they do, but just don't want to admit it.

I'm glad you're feeling better. And yeah, that pneumonia shot hurts like a motherfucker, doesn't it? What do they use, the largest gauge needle they have or what?? And why do they always pick the crankiest nurse to give it to you?

Oh yeah, I used to read the Star Trek novels back in the day and there were so many Mary Sues and so many bad plots. 99% of the fanfic I read is so much better than the published crap from the 80s and 90s.

Ack! No, no, you should get a tetanus/diptheria/pertussis booster. You really, really don't wan't either tetanus or diptheria they are both really really horrible. And petussis sucks a lot too, plus you could end up causing some poor little baby to get whooping cough.

Thank you so much for posting that video here, I never would have seen it otherwise.

I hope you feel better very quickly because I wouldn't wish pneumonia/flu on anyone just because of the suckitude of it.

(I really need at east one Sheppard/Mckay icon given all of the fic I read with them. Please just pretend that's McKay with Sheppard in this one. ;))

Oh I have *missed* you! I'm so glad you're feeling better. Maybe not all the way to great yet, but better. And that video is a weeper! Seriously. I'm still sniffling. Have you ever read "Flowers for Algernon"? Losing yourself like that is a cruel fate.

As for HP, I'm in the middle of a HP crossover phase. I'm convinced almost anything can be crossed with it, kinda like BtVS. (Which actually works well as a xover, too.)

I'm sorry to hear you've been sick so much this season. I'd assumed NaNo and normal holiday chaos had just eaten you alive. I'm excited that you're working on more Harry/Draco. Really glad you are feeling better. If you have asthma (both my kids do.) you should find out if you've had your pertussis booster. Whooping cough is like asthma on steroids. You can breathe in but out is murder.

It comes down to the fact that I have a morbid and near never ending sense of curiosity. I can't even help myself. I'll browse through whole categories on that site on more than one fandom. I'm not ashamed though ;-)

Slash is a genre NOT a warning. I hear that putting slash in the warnings is deeply offensive to some people. Now I am the first to admit you can't please everyone, but seriously... Are these people incapable of reading the pairing and figuring it out for themselves? I pity them...

Yeah, I'll be the first admit it when I got into fandom I used to warn for slash -- like the first time I posted a slash story. It wasn't until I'd been around a while that I came to find the very idea of putting a slash "warning" on my work really offensive. It's grown to be almost a really huge pet peeve for me.
