Okay,

I've had all I can take of the new Delicious. Can someone tell me about Pinboard and how awesome (or not) it is. Does it have browser plug-ins for easy book marking?

If Pinboard is horrible -- can you point me somewhere awesome?

Keira

Pinboard is awesome and so is the creator of it. He's on twitter, and when there was the huge delicious movement of last year, he was really cool about all the slash fic appearing on the "Popular" page.

Pinboard does have browser plug-in, I think.

Pinboard is great. The guy who runs it is all about the fandom. There was a huge fandom wide discussion where he asked what we needed and then fans made a googledoc and he came through with all of it. Totally awesome. There is a plug in, which is just as easy to use as the delicious one.

Diigo also has a crosspost feature so you can keep both accounts current if your interested in that. It does have a plugin that's super easy to use, plus its free!

You lasted SIGNIFICANTLY longer than I did with the new Delicious. Pinboard is pretty awesome, but I only use it to steal other people's recs (why yes, I am too lazy to find my own fic) so I'm not sure about plug-ins.

Pinboard is pretty great and very fandom friendly. You can note that you're in fandom, and your bookmarks then go toward a fandom 'popular' page.... I've been using it as a way to find new fic, since delicious is now totally useless.
If you have questions, check out the FAQ, and if it doesn't answer your questions tweet or email the owner - he'll get back to you fast :)

Do you mean Pinterest? I will say it has saved me bookmarking stuff and provides quick links back to what you pinned. Need an invite?

Pinboard is awesome

I have tried to retrieve bookmarks off Delicious, and I cannot find 'em. All I use it for now is most visited sites in Firefox. Pinboard, on the other hand, retrieves what I am looking for.

Still wondering how many of my slash bookmarks disappeared.

Pinboard is great. I haven't had any problem with it. I have a little thing on my top bookmarks bar that I press and it bookmarks the page for me (a bookmarklet, I think it's called).

Diigo isn't too bad, but it has problems with words that involve anything to do with sex and such and automatically makes those tags (and the bookmarks associated with them) private.

Yep, they do censor the links.

Plus, their tag system is an horror and there is a characters limit for summary and tags.

I tried Diigo at first too, but I switched to Pinboard under three days. It's perfect, and there are styles and scripts available at [livejournal.com profile] pinboard that permit you to color the bookmarklet's tags (here are a few screenshots of mine: Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket)

As you can see, very useful. I prefer it too Delicious now, as it's much more clean, fast and the owner is a great guy ^^

My Diigo account did this a while back (a year or more ago), but after I did a full delete and re-import, it hasn't happened again.

I also use diigo and find the plug in diigolet super easy to use ... although I only use it to store bookmarks rather than to follow anyone so not sure if that is helpful for you

guy who runs pinboard seems super cool and willing to work with his user base (UNLIKE delicious). he has been really supportive of fandom and very prompt to address our needs and concerns and it's only $9 for the service which, when I find someone willing to work with and FOR me, I definitely don't mind paying to support them in return.

and also isnt Diigo the site that polices anything tagged "porn"? I know one of the alternative bookmarking sites does.

I use http://www.diigo.com and licorize.com

I use diigo more though, and it has a crossposting feature that when set up automatically crossposts all bookmarks saved to Delicious.

For fanfic: I bookmark on diigo, which posts on delicious and pinboard picks ups the delicious bookmarks automatically. I've moved all my fanfic searching to pinboard though....

For non-fanfic bookmarks: I bookmark on delicious and pinboard picks it up....

I did this way before the "new" delicious site for backup purposes because of rumors of Yahoo shutting down Delicious... and kept it because I can post bookmarks to the different accounts without logging in and out.

Using Pinterest for fanfic sounding interesting... I might have to set up another account and try it.

I recommend pinboard

I really like pinboard, although I do very much miss tag bundles. Diigo has a couple of no go issues for me (automatically censoring your bookmarks as "private" if smut is detected and a limit of 255 characters in the tag field which is insufficient for me).

Depending on your browser there are pinboard plug-ins or you can use a javascript bookmarklet. (I use opera and the bookmarklet works great.)

The site can also be customized via css as it's fairly bare bones. Here are a few links to get you started if you are interested in "prettying" pinboard:

Greasemonkey scripts: http://userscripts.org/tags/pinboard
Stylish css:http://userstyles.org/styles/browse/pinboard?sort=updated_date&sort_direction=desc
Stylebot: http://brettterpstra.com/pinboard-redesign-experiment

The developer continues to innovate and is extremely responsive to bug and feature requests. For example he's added different sort options, expanded network capability to follow other pinboard users and view who they are following, tag subscriptions, and twitter/instapaper/delicious/readability/read it later integration to name a few. He's working on tag bundles right now but there isn't a date yet for release.

If you haven't already, you should read his post about the fandom migration to pinboard after delicious jumped the shark called The Fans Are Alright (http://blog.pinboard.in/2011/10/the_fans_are_all_right/)

The only problem I have found while browsing pinboard, ( since I was burned with Delicious,I have been leary of getting a second bookmarking site, and don't have a pinboard.) is the inablility to search entries by one more then one criteria at a time. It was something that the original Delicious did that was massively handy.
If there is a way to do it, could someone let me know. I would love to get another place to list all my bookmarks, but I haven't found one.

On Pinboard, when you choose one tag, the other 'related' tags show up on the leftright (I meant right... seriously. *headdesk* I think I need sleep). There should be a + sign next to each of those related tags. If you hit that sign, it will filter for both tags. :) Hope that helps!

Pinboard is pretty awesome and the addon in Firefox works just as well as the Delicious one did. I'm using Pinboard exclusively right now just because I can't stand looking at the new Delicious and none of the other sites seemed to work for me. To me, it's totally worth the one time fee, which I did for one of my comms, and for my private bookmarks, I've been trying out the archiving which is 25 bucks a year. Pretty cool ;)

The owner of Pinboard seems really into it and completely accepting of fandom. Here's a googledoc I found when I switched where they discussed pinboard feature requests. He's very open to developing tools and listening to suggestions. Also, if you're interesting the great delicious migration spreadsheet is here. I can't remember where I found the links - somewhere on LJ, I'm sure... but hopefully they'll help you decide :)

I use Pinboard, and actually pay for it because I think it's worth it. I use the bookmarklet, and it's very user-friendly. Everyone else has pointed out all the nice features, but I would chip in that the creator is great!

I finally gave up on Delicious in the last two weeks. I've been migrating everything because Delicious fucked up a lot of my shit. I have tons of bookmarks and I'm only through 1/4 to 1/3 of them so far.

I've been using Diigo exclusively since I gave up Delicious, but Diigo has many options for exporting, so I'm not horribly worried about switching if I have to do so. I certainly won't depend so heavily on a service as I did for Delicious again. Diigo is okay. I'm not thrilled, but it's the best free service I've found for my needs. Also, have you seen the limit on the notes section in Diigo? Pretty awesome!

I've tried SO many services, even services suggested by Lifehacker that weren't necessarily made for bookmarking, but can do so.

I would love to try Pinboard. The $10 wouldn't kill me, though is inconvenient since I don't have a credit card. I not only understand why it's pay, but I think the reasons behind it are very good.

I'll be tracking this so I can see what everyone else says about Pinboard.

The times I've gone to someone else's Pinboard account, it seems a little confusing, but I was very impressed with the structure, lack of bloating features, tagging, and options.

I've read the FAQ on Pinboard. Is it really true that the notes section of bookmarks is unlimited?

Oh, something else. Is there any way for a Pinboard user to easily see if they've already bookmarked a site?

Before Delicious broke (and gave up on) the browser addon and right now with Diigo, I can see as soon as I'm at a page I've bookmarked -- my bookmark icon changes color.

I suppose this isn't completely necessary, but it is a very nice feature.
