I'm starting a new project -- something different and sort of scary. I don't know what it will be, yet. It's original fiction. But I'm plotting and world building tonight and I realized that just like all writer's my process has evolved. I don't always know how or who or even when my process will advance to the next level. This time, I totally do because I found myself asking YOUR questions.
My readers are awesome. Your curiousity and your questions have shaped me in the most interesting ways as an author. I was looking at the Q & As for my series work and the desire to know more, more, more when it comes to the history of what is essentially an original world.
The thing is that my only real foray into science fiction writing is in fandom. My professional work is contemporary and historical mostly -- with a smidgen of fantasy here and there. So I'm building my own sci-fi world full of war and hot guys and evil people and sex and gadgets and hope. It's kind of fascinating BUT more so it's just really awesome that thanks to you all I'm thinking about the history of my world in a way I never would've in the past.
That's awesome.

Date: 2012-12-09 10:33 am (UTC)You have taught me more about the craft of writing than I think can be verbalized. I know that thanks to the questions, demands, and subtle ( and not so subtle ) challenges you have thrown my way, I enjoy my writing more. I am thrilled thay we can do the same for you.

Date: 2012-12-09 11:26 am (UTC)Mostly I think I have started to overcome my fear of someone not liking what I write or being offended, well now I think... "they can just go root a boot" In the nicest way possible :-)

I have an idea but I enjoy specifics.

Date: 2012-12-09 02:55 pm (UTC)I know from personal experience that it's scary to do something you've never done before. I have a rule: If I try something, I will never sit here and wonder "what if". If I succeed, great. If not, I've learned something about myself and at least I can say I tried.

Date: 2012-12-17 12:26 am (UTC)Keira is not my real name. In fact, I publish under 3 pen names and none of them are my real name. Because you're right, people are crazy and I don't like strangers coming to my house.

Date: 2012-12-09 05:21 pm (UTC)It's a two way street you know. I have certainly grown as a writer since I started hanging out with you and the Minions in the chat. Before that I hadn't written anything in two years. Now I can't seem to stop writing.
Thank you Keira.

Date: 2012-12-09 07:45 pm (UTC)Wow, that was a really really long comment, but I hope that you are able to understand what I wrote, I tend to ramble...which isn't the best thing in the world, but yep! I love you and your writing and love all the things that you post up on your livejournal, you're seriously really strong, and I admire that!!!
Keep up with all the good work and seriously, seriously cannot wait to see what you come up with, as it is, I think you're pretty damn creative, as you take stuff from other stuff and make it uniquely your own.
And dang, I wrote a freaking essay, but I'm just so excited!!! ^^

Date: 2012-12-09 09:09 pm (UTC)If I publish original work as Keira -- it won't be for free. That might sound mercenary but that's just the way it is. I give away my fan fic because it's not legal or cool or ethical to make money off someone else's work.

Date: 2012-12-10 12:54 am (UTC)And if you do publish original work under your pen name I'd be more than happy to pay, just as long as it isn't too expensive...just cause your work is again just freaking phenomenal

Date: 2012-12-14 08:48 am (UTC)And if ye publish original fic as Keira I'd figure out a way to pay for it and consider the trade well made and fair. I mostly quit buying fiction the last decade or so because so much of what's out there is utter crap, or even if the writer is good they are just phoning it in and it shows. I'm happy to know when I see one of yours, it doesn't matter what fandom, I'm bound to enjoy it. First found your fic thru a Treklist I'm on that was praising Tangled Destinies, and from there devoured everything you post. As long as you are writing fanfic I'll be reading it.
As for original fic, may the Muse be ever generous with thee!

Date: 2012-12-09 10:53 pm (UTC)All that too say--squee!!! I'm looking forward to any and all stories you create--fanfic or original, free or paid. Thank you for all the time and effort you have put into so many stories that have given us hours and hours of enjoyment. I've been re-reading "Tangled Destinies" today while waiting in many lines. Got to love the iPad. :-)

Date: 2012-12-12 11:50 pm (UTC)The sheer effort, thought and discipline involved...its tough, I know, as someone who is trying to get it together to FINISH some of my work. (Having been published in the past, but so long ago it might as well be another fricking lifetime).
We your readers have learnt a lot. As I often say, the best slash fanfic writers such as yourself, Auburn,Cesperanza, Xanthe, Jane Davitt to name but a few, are giving us masterclasses in writing. And making the TV show that inpire the fiction, often look clumsy and amateurish in the writing part by comparison (*cough* Stargate Universe!*cough*)
I love the thought of your writing original science fiction. I'd gobble it up with a spoon! And I'm besides mself, waiting for our 'Criminal Minds' Hotch/Reid fic!!!!
