I can't wait for the academy arc to start. They've already met Chekov and Scott, with this next arc be where they meet Uhura and Sulu? Also you mentioned fairly early on that they'd be going to collage before joining the academy.... I figured it was so you could have them enter the academy at pace with the movie. Has that changed?

I actually only watched half the first season of Enterprise so I honestly couldn't say. I couldn't find anything about it on Memory Alpha:

I didn't watch much of Enterprise either, because at first it was at an awkward time, and then it switched to an even MORE awkward time.I just seem to remember a terrorist organization by that name already existing..


Hah! I stopped mid reply to do a little searching. It was Terra Prime, not Earth First. Very similar though. Maybe you could argue that Sam was trying to pay homage to the earlier group? LOL

Canon is actually so meaningless to me that I rarely bother to explain myself on the parts I willfully ignore or the ones that I simply don't know about.

Answers:

They will go to college. I'm skipping most of that. Jim was in his mid-twenties when he entered the academy in the AOS 'verse and Spock had already served for years in Starfleet.

In this au, I've altered their ages to match and they'll both enter the academy around the age of 20 or so.

They haven't met Chekov, yet.

Altering ages is fine, in my book. JJ Abrams already fiddled with the ages of some of the characters, after all. Chekov, for instance, is four or five years younger than the original (so he's pretty much an entirely different person with the same name). Not to mention Jim, who was born a good two months early.

Oh, I thought they had met. Wasn't he with Scott when he tried to beam the puppy? Or did they just not interact then?

Chekov is 17 in the movie and Jim is 25. So on that theory, if Jim is sixteen in Tangled Destinies... Chekov is only 8 years old when my AU started. That's why he hasn't appeared -- from my point of view he's still in Russia.

Are you planning to change the other characters back stories as much as you've altered Kirk and McCoy's? I'm reasonably sure the whole Spock/Uhura thing is getting kicked to the curb, aside from some possible crush feelings on the part of Uhura....

I don't normally answer plot questions regarding the future of a series but I will say this - by the time Jim and Spock meet Uhura they will have been essentially married for nearly six years. She has more respect for herself to crush on a married man. At least, she will in my AU.

And that's a relief. I didn't think you'd go the jealous bitch!Uhura route, but I thought it couldn't hurt to ask. Uhura is so mishandled in so many fics. I hoped you would let her have some actual personality traits and whatnot.
