Date: 2013-05-25 03:38 pm (UTC)Um, yes. I have no idea what you just said, Mr. Khan, sir, but I just came in my pants so I kinda don't care... *life support destroyed* Well, fuck. At least talk us through the slow asphyxiation?

Date: 2013-05-24 09:30 am (UTC)I'm as quick to hate racism as anyone, being mixed-blood myself and bullied for it as a cub -- but srsly, there are far more honest criticisms that could be made, that's one hell of a reach.
An old guy I worked for once told me I was a traitor to my race (grey eyes dark brown hair, olive skin), and I just laughed and said "Which one?"
kinda reminds me of the overwrought academic who once claimed that all hetsex was inherently rape, no matter whether the participants thought so. Eeesh, get a life...
ETA: mm, yummy Bennyshower is yummy!!

Date: 2013-05-25 09:57 am (UTC)I enjoyed the movie, but for love of God/Science/Eukaryotic Lifeforms/or maybe pasta... The movie has more holes than Swiss fucking cheese, has a logic that's held together by fairy dust and Benedict Cumberbatch's charisma (and only barely at that). I'll cheerfully pick apart things like... Volcanoes don't work like that, how fucking stupid are you? Exactly how far away is the Klingon empire? Because if we can get there in half a day, the Federation has a serious goddamn problem. And, Admiral Marcus? I don't care how fucking badass your ship is, starting a war when you've only got one... is so ridiculously fucking suicidal I can't even process it. I. Simply. Can't. Parse. Your. Logic. You might as well slap "Free slaves/subjugated worlds!!" on every Federation planet. Jesus. I'd call you a wanker, but its an unlikely pastime for you, what with the fact that your ship doesn't even begin to make up for the subatomic size of your dick.
Seriously, I can probably go on for hours and I liked the film. It's the post movie "wait, what?" that keeps getting me.
But, no, people are going to get argumentative about "oh, no, Khan isn't being played by a minority"?
If he had been, it would have been the fucking screams about how the colored man is always the bad guy, and both stances forget that Khan Noonien Singh is a motherfucking genetically engineered supersoldier. Once the scientists were done, his base "race" is goddamn well meaningless. In theory, how he looks has fuck all to do with his underlying phenotype, and -- depending on how one actually understands genetic engineering (which is to say, hello, we've got a much better idea of what it would take than they did in the sixties, and Steve's supersoldier serum and vita rays aren't it) -- he would have been built from the ground up, so race little to do with anything, and his name a whim of the dimwits that thought creating him was a good idea. (No, really, creating a highly aggressive subspecies that will think you're inferior and worthless... This is a good idea, why?)
I'm all for casting the most creepily charismatic actor they could find, and BC? Excellent damn choice. I'm positive they could have found a Hispanic/Indian/Asian/African, too, but BC is a known quantity for at least vaguely sociopathic supercharisma.
Tl;dr: OMG, people are stupid. Although I'd love to see Rodney's reaction to the whole thing, as the science is so bad it's actually pretty hysterical.

Date: 2013-05-25 03:30 pm (UTC)Does anyone else desperately want to see a workable stargate/star trek crossover? Because Khan being a result of the Trust's massively shortsighted cloning program and maybe containing some Goa'uld DNA and genetic memory/drive would explain so freaking much.
This intrigues me
Date: 2013-05-26 02:00 am (UTC)Think they could get hold of Wraith DNA?
Re: This intrigues me
Date: 2013-05-26 03:23 am (UTC)Aaaaaand, wow, random desire for Khan/Ba'al slash, because, er, reasons! (like, oh, shit hot, and there's some evil overlords to get on one's knees for... *cough*)
As for Wraith DNA... sure, why not? I can't imagine Caldwell's symbiote keeping that kind of shit to himself, can you? And, face it -- the Trust and Things They Should Not Have is kind of its own OTP.
Re: This intrigues me
Date: 2013-05-26 11:31 am (UTC)Because...er, reasons. Brain is also stuck on what Tony Stark and/or Rodney McKay would make of the Enterprise.
It's very random in there before meds in the morning.
Re: This intrigues me
Date: 2013-05-26 04:39 pm (UTC)And, dude, Rodney or Tony on the Enterprise would be *golden*...
Re: This intrigues me
Date: 2013-05-27 12:12 am (UTC)Natasha is very likely the power behind Khan's throne.
