1. Your deep, personal investment in my work makes me really uncomfortable.

2. Sometimes your feedback is phrased in such a way that I worry the line between fiction and reality is pretty much nonexistent for you.

3. I hate it when you read between the lines of my story and make up shit that didn't actually happen then make it seem like you're really unhappy with your assumptions and blame me. It's not cool.

4. Your homophobia makes me deeply uncomfortable. (Every single time someone emails me asks me what the pairing is going to be for Lord of the High Elves because they'll be so upset for wasting their time reading it if it's Harry/Draco)

5. Being a Big Name Fan isn't something I strived for, I hate being called one, and it's not contagious so stop trying to rub yourself all over me. It's weird.

I so agree with all of this.

Thank you for saying this.

Man, I wish LJ had a like button when I see things like this. :)

P.S. I'm thinking about absconding with that graphic. Is that okay with you?

Things 1 & 2, I laughed my ass off (if I really think about it it creeps me out, so no); thing 3, I'm baffled, I mean, it's written so you cannot "mishear" it...; thing 4, ...they read your work, didn't they? You know, your I-do-not-know-how-many slash stories...; thing 5, back to laughing.

Some of the attention you get makes me deeply uncomfortable and I'm not the one who has to deal with it.

Totally agree. Like I get it. You love her, we love her, but chill! It's just fiction. Great fiction, but still fiction.

also, 6. Dear reader, you just consumed a novella, do not ask me for more. This is the part where you say 'thank you.'

Exactly. And if you can't say 'thank you', just keep your mouth shut. Ugh.

BTW, I was just re-reading A.W.O.L. and Foothold very recently. I have muuuuuuch love for this series. :D

I'm a reader, not a writer.

Thank you for sharing your writing with us (me). I don't understand all the weird stuff that goes on with the internet. I don't believe I've ever 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5.

6 is important. Thanks to all writers who share. (Not asking for more but I will happily read more if it appears.)

You are the self-proclaimed leader of a cult of (equal opportunity) Cockworshippers. How stupid does someone have to be to express homophobia on your site, in your mail...etc? Obviously, the answer is VERY. Ignorant assholes. :( Also, you've made it very clear how much you dislike the BNF thing. It's just really inconsiderate of people not to accept that and leave it alone. Sheesh. I never liked the concept myself and, boy, I sure wasn't around fandom very long before I was made aware of it. Eh. Sorry people are assholes. :(

As a reader, I appreciate your writing so very much. As a somewhat inappropriate, salty-tempered (or so I've been told) woman, I appreciate you as a human being. I've never understood how strangers on the Internet feel as though they deserve more than that from you, or any writer.

Well, shit....

I'm a reader and there's many a time when I read something so damn good, my mind and my fingers get so tied up I end up writing a review that ends up getting deleted so that the writer doesn't think I'm a psycho.

I want to say I understand all 5 reasons. I can't really since I'm not an author - I'm sure I would if I were.

But in regards to number 3 I was laughing to myself because I feel that may have been said to me.

I have a pretty clear memory of reading a short from you in the "What might have been"-verse about the declassification of the SG programme. It was brilliant (afair) and I haven't seen it since. I may have been dreaming ;-)

I'm not sure what to think of anyone who has a deep, personal investment in any author's work. I enjoy author's efforts, but I don't project myself or try to find my life in their works, if that makes sense? No matter how much one enjoys someone's work, one should always be aware of the line between what is acceptable and what is not.

And, please forgive my ignorance, but what is a Big Name Fan? I've never heard the term and I'm curious. ;-)
