Hey Keira, I understand most of that, but I think there's something about "1985 called" that I'm missing; was that a year where there were a lot of movies where the supposed heroines didn't seem to think for themselves...?
In the mid-80s up through the 90s, there was a trend in romance books that focused on the uber alpha male hero who was strong, forceful, in charge and the woman in the book swooned helplessly in the wake of his authority.
Back in the early 90s several mainstream published romance writers got together and put out a book, "Dangerous Men and the Adventurous Women Who Love Them'. One of the ideas was that the writers tended to see / visualize themselves in the role of the hero as opposed to the heroine. So confusing. Of course most people grow and change over the course of decades, 'Petty Patty' being a exception. If all of those writers came back to the concept I wonder what they would think now about what they wrote then and how they feel about their work now.
Ah yes, those writer "friends"... I had a couple that I dealt with right around the time my then publisher imploded - well, both of my then publishers imploded - and the experience completely killed my ability to write. I'm still - more than a decade later - trying to recover from it. *sigh* I'm hoping 2020 is finally the year that I do more than go - "Oh, an idea!" - and actually write something.
And an aside, I can not get Discord to be stable/work on my computer or tablet. I don't know if it's my ISP, my setup, or just the Imp of Perverse hating on me. I tried... I just can't... dammit!
Discord won't run at all in any browser for me. I have several installed just in case I need a different one than my "default" to access a site. And the app kept crashing. Annoyingly, my husband has no problem at all with it on his computer downstairs. *sigh* He says it's my "anti-electronics field" doing it or the Imp of Perverse. I will get it to work one day!
I am so sorry this happened to you. What an awful selfish person she was. Yikes. I am so glad you have gone on to find success on your own terms anyway.
I'm pretty sure the only thing that saved Petty Patty from being the subject of an episode of Unsolved Mysteries is that she pulled that shit in public. I didn't have the honor of knowing you at 29, but I am sure you were already a badass. If she'd pulled that shit out of the public eye... well... it would just be a strange sinkhole and a few fat feral hogs out in the backcountry.
Slight confusion...

Date: 2020-03-03 02:08 pm (UTC)It's a really tired trope in romance.

I find the APP to be very stable compared to the browser.
