A few people sent emails on the off chance I'd fallen off the edge of the Earth again and crawled into my bed for a pity party of epic proportions. No pity party, promise.

My Mother Unit is in the hospital and I've been splitting baby sitting duty with my sister who insists that the nursing staff doesn't deserve to deal with our mother on their own--and I admit it probably wouldn't be fair to these women to do that to them.

Right now, Mother Unit is on Facebook Farming with the kind of intense concentration I reserve for writing butt-sex. I'm tempted to tell her that but she'd probably start laughing and hurt herself or pull out some stitches and then I'd feel bad. They keep asking her if she's gotten any sleep but then they wake her up every two fucking hours to check her blood pressure. I'm surprised she hasn't gone nuclear on them. Though I've said the words, "Mother, she's just doing her job" about 50 times in the last week. I don't think I've called her "mother" this much since I was sixteen.

There is one male nurse on the floor and he is HOT. He definitely adds to the scenery which definitely needs it.

Speaking of eye-candy:

Yeah! You are well(ish) and keeping yourself entertained.

And congrats to your mother on her farming. I am working the Frontier for all I am worth, so I wish her the best in her endeavors.

Remember that ditty? "Patience is a virtue"? Well my favorite reply to it came from "The Mummy". "Not NOW it isn't!" Maybe being evil will get the nurses to leave your mom alone long enough for her to sleep!

Good luck on that though.

I hope the Mother Unit gets better soon, bb, and that the hot male nurse is on during your shift.

And are you getting into Hawaii 5-0? Isn't it awesome? Last week had so many great moments between Steve and Danny, I couldn't pick a favorite.

Well I wish you many happy hours of nurse watching, and your mother a very speedy recovery. ^__^

Mine is in the hospital, too, just now. And no, the nurses really don't deserve it. But they knew what they were getting into when they went into the field, right? They may not have bargained on either of our maternal units, but there they are.
Best wishes for your mom's complete healing.

Although just a nurse's aide, I always feel a bit honoured when I'm helping someone's mom/dad/loved one get better. Admittedly sometimes the honoured feeling is overwhelmed by aggravation, annoyance or "Why me?" but that doesn't last long. And I always keep in mind I would be aggravated, annoyed and driving people to "why me?" if I were sick/hurt/unable to move freely for awhile. And there is always at least one moment, every day I work, where I'm reminded how lucky I am for I get to help people get better in some small way. (Which sounds incredibly sappy, but it's true. It makes the hard work, heavy patient load, and everything else worthwile.)

See...the first time I saw (the actor who plays) Danny, it was in a really bad, but vaguely watchable in that train wreck way, parody of a porno movie. I just can't get that version of him out of my head, especially since he played a cop in that one, too.

Glad you're all right and she's on the mend

My mom kick a male nurse out of her room 36 hours after a car wreck put her there with a nearly crushed left side when he was careless turning her over.

Plus side: it was determined she had minimal nerve damage despite the orthopedic devastation.

Downside: That nurse may never be the same again following prolonged exposure to the sharp side of my mother's wit.

Then a doctor made a careless remark to the effect that she might never walk again. I'm pretty sure setting the goal of kicking his ass was what motivated Mom through PT.

I think we would have it easier if there were more hot male nurses. My grandmother (87 and almost blind) certainly behaves better if she's treated by one. Last time she met a young male doctor who was supposedly "too handsome to exist". (As a doctor myself, I'm really curious as to who it was! :-D)

Hope your mother unit is out of hospital soon!

Sending good thoughts your way. I'm sure the nursing staff appericates your help in calming your mother down. I learned early to make friends with my nurses when I was in the hospital for 3 weeks the first time in '88. My favorite movie was 'Dirty Dancing' so the parents brought that for me to watch and all the nurses would sneak into my room during their breaks. I may have only be 6 1/2 but my folks figured they had big worries than that movie.

Hi, I would have liked to get my mother learn how to use a computer too but she declined and now she is in the hospital and bored out of her mind. Thankfully she had a lot of friend who visit her often. I hope you can hold on your patience and your mother will better soon.Lucky you , you get an eye candy I get only women and the only two male nurse have more similarity to really big ugly truck than to an eye candy, poor me.

My most memorable male nurse wasn't particularly handsome. He was nice, but that's not why I remember him. I gave birth in a military hospital overseas and they sent a young male enlisted nurse down to make sure I knew how to nurse my son. (You wouldn't think a person needed training on that, would you?)

Hey Keira,

I hope your Mom is recovering well and gets to go home soon :)

My mum is in hospital this week too for minor op which kept getting put off. We've been trading texts because she can't make calls from her ward and I'm stuck across the sea in England which sucks. I can't wait til she gets out on Monday (fingers crossed) so I can chat to her each day!
