I don't like to read incest fiction of any kind (fan fic or otherwise). I avoid it and I avoid certain fandoms so that I don't run across an unmarked incest fic.

I don't hate writer's who write incest and I don't even think they're mentally damaged because they do write incest. Yes, I do wonder sometimes about people who write explicitly violent rape or torture. Mostly because for me I write what I enjoy and I find it difficult to fathom that people might actually enjoy writing about rape. I don't think these authors have mental defects because of it, however. I'm not in a position to judge someone's mental health based on their online activity and fandom.

I said all of that to say this:

ABSOLUTELY NO FUCKING ONE WHO READS MY WORK OR SEES MY POSTS ON FACEBOOK OR LIVE JOURNAL HAS THE INFORMATION THEY WOULD LEGITIMATELY REQUIRE TO MAKE A JUDGMENT ON MY MENTAL HEALTH OR PERSONAL HISTORY.

The fact is that I think incest is wrong and disgusting but I have no direct personal experience with it because no one in my family is THAT kind of sick-twisted fuck. That's not say that I don't have a few twisted-fucks in my family but they mostly confined themselves to setting things on fire and grand larceny.

I think incest is ALWAYS mentally abusive and most often physically abusive. There is no equality possible in such a relationship and therefore it is mentally unhealthy.

It's not sexy or romantic and it's not fucking normal. Period.

I don't care if you don't agree. I don't give a fuck if you think my opinion on this issue means I'm "dissing" your entire fucking fandom. Email me with your stupid, unbelievable shit again and I will post your entire email (complete with address) on my LJ so that everyone can see what a fucker you are.

PS: I posted this on my LJ instead of emailing the person privately because the Cock Provider "politely" requested that I not email assholes.

Keira,

Seriously, did some bitch get in your face in some email over this? This boggles the mind. It really does. I used to think that everyone was entitled to an opinion, but then I hit thirty-five, and found out that too many people should have a license for their train of thought.

Please post their email next time. I would love to discuss it with them.

Brandy (who just realized that I've written far too much email in the last couple of days to have written a comment this way without thinking about it

People can be such morons. This is your opinion and you are entitled to it, same as them. If they don't like it, there is a reason for the 'back' button and they can leave.

Also, the Supernatural/Numb3rs fandoms aren't really my thing, and while I have read stuff from there, it is rarely incest. Because that squicks me too on many levels.

Morons.

I had a book series I read that started to hint at an incestuous relationship, the two main characters were supposedly brother and sister but had never grown up together and hadn't ever known they had another sibling. Still I thought hard about whether I would read book 3 until it was found out that the evil man for the book had been lying trying to create a problem so they wouldn't go after him.

I stay away from SPN incest fics. I never would have thought that there would be so many but there are. Still it squicks me and I have mad several fic friend mad by refusing to read their fics because of the Wincest.

The nerve of some people.
I don't read SPN because of the incest. I tried to read a few rps fics with the actors, but my conscience spoke up and I felt as if a assaulted the actors by reading such a thing, so I stopped. Therefore I'm very grateful for your stories which cast Jensen Ackles.

Regarding the moron.
A few years ago I stumbled across a AU SGA without proper warning. It happened to be an incest fic regarding John and Rodney. Their relationship as brothers was brought into context after several long described sex scenes. I stopped reading SGA fics for a few months, because I was so shocked and way outside my comfort zone. It would have drove me from reading anything again if I had not had my other fandoms to run there. Despite that I stopped reading anything for a few weeks.
This moron who wrote to you is some very disturbing person, if he/she things that only victims find that kind of thing awful.
Incest, rape and torture are the things that most people with a functional brain find disgusting. There is simple no gray part in judging about this stuff.
Sorry for the rant.

I do read Wincest, admittedly, and I enjoy a lot of it. There are some exceptional authors out there and some great reads in that fandom. I do tend to avoid most other incest stories, because they usually do squick me. It has nothing to do with my past.

I would never assume that people do or do not like to read something based on their personal past. I love reading about vampires, but I was never bitten by one in the past! I won't read anything that details child sexual abuse, or torture, and I was never a victim of it, I just find it horrific.

We all have stuff that squicks us, all have things we avoid just because they make us uncomfortable, unhappy or just feel wrong to us. That should be a given, and there should be no judgement based on it, one way or another. It's sad when people feel they have to make everyone else think and act the way they do, to justify their own interests and good feelings. I'm sorry you were harassed.

It's fandon, people!

I do read SPN fandom. I like it. There are some good fics, and a lot of they have incest. Bothers me? In a fandom, no.It's not real; the characters don't are like-people.
In the real-life, I'm sorry but: beauty?, consensual?... It's a joke?
I do agree that fandom should have tags and warning, and if there are some fic with themes that you don't like.. don't read it! Fin!
To read fiction or livejournal and to think than you can to misjudge somebody, it's ridiculous.

What do you mean? This is perfect logic! It explains so much.

I'm squicked by bestiality. The only explanation is that a squirrel flasher once exposed himself to me.

I dislike stories with horrible grammar, and avoid them. Clearly, a gang exclamation points beat me up as a child. I must work to be more accepting of the !!!!!!!! and those who use them.

All these traumas I didn't even know I had experienced...

On a serious note, there are officially no pictures of squirrels in trench coats to be found using Google.

Well, I've read and written incest - I was in Numb3rs fandom before SGA. But I would never expect anyone else to share my views or feelings on it. It's like kink - I never judge anyone else on what does or doesn't squick them.

I would never read death fic or child abuse or explicit rape because of my RL job - I get enough of the reality to want to read it in my relaxation time.

Go tell whoever that was to fly a kite during a thunderstorm.

I write Wincest, I warn for it even if the stuff isn't explicit, and my boys are screwed up bigtime in several areas. It's not beautiful, it is abusive. An outside the pairing character has a serious problem with it, another doesn't because he's based off a friend who's been the filling in a twin sandwich and a third is swimming on the river of denial or he'll go homicidal on the person who broke the kids so badly they could do this to each other. He blames the abuser, not the abused.

But the point is, no matter the begging, you won't read my fic. No matter the begging, I won't read NuTrek. Can we go coo at Miko's baby now?

feel free to send anyone who thinks that incest is beautiful my way... I still bear the scars 25 years on (and I got off incredibly lightly in that he DIDN'T rape me and it was a short period of time) and I'm happy to share the experience of a 12 year old with them!

and with that: yes, I do have a back button and use it (not that I'm read in the SPN fandom for exactly that reason)

Damn, do you have some sort of line into my brain, because I was just thinking about this earlier. It's not just in Supernatural or Numbers - however it's spelled, the number confuzzles me - but occasionally in Sherlock and Harry Potter (Fred/George), which is a huge trigger.

Unfortunately, I do have a few sick fucks in my family. Incest and molestation by older, father figures (which are distressingly common in the Harry Potter fandom) are among the few warnings that will cause me to skip a story completely and not even attempt to read it, no matter how well written or how much I might enjoy an author's other work.

Gotta agree with you on this one. It's a taboo in most human cultures for a reason and it is a CRIME in this one. If it happens to be someone's secret little kink, my position is: enjoy it fictionally if you must but don't be so goddamned surprised when lots of other folks judge you for it. And don't try the "it's all just an IDIC issue and you're the one who has the problem if you judge me for it" tack because it won't fly with me. All things are not acceptable.
(BTW, I did read that SGA story mentioned and it did squick me a bit but was so well-written, I was reluctantly drawn in, but it's the exception to the rule.)

I had a phase where I literally read everything I could and there were some trashy romance novels using the unexpected siblings plot.
I can take it, if both partners did not grow up together and did not know they were siblings or even had siblings - as long as they break up the minute they realise it.
There was some big scandal about a couple that realized that they were siblings taken away from their Mom in different years (she had all the new kids taken away like twice) and their arguments about the fact that there was no sibling bond and as one was infertile it wasn't really incest. I could see their point, but that is the rare exception and I still wasn't fully comfortable with it.

Seriously, I think the person that sent you this is the one with the mental defect. I don't like insect-I admit to having read one maybe two, before I knew what was going on. Then I felt like I needed a mental scrub brush.

I don't read SPN becasue of that-and think RTD needs to be shot for his suggestion to the Torchwood fandom- but I digress. I will however look at the pretty pretty sparkly graphics that one of my flist person makes. Cause really, the eye candy.

I will edit Numbers fic, but not if it has incest.

I think however that once you get to about fourth cousins that the term incest no longer applies. Cause really I never knew some of my fourth cousins exsisted, and had NO idea a person with that last name was related to me....

Which is kinda concerning, because my Granddad was a orphange, and its the South, I always wonder in the back of my mind, I hope I am not related to him or her...

Am stealing your fuck-o-meter. I can't believe this person said that shit.

Hrmmm I don't know I'm of two minds on this one. I don't really give a big damn deal about incest in fandom because they aren't REAL... they're fictional and the things we do with them are fictional. I personally have a current lust for Uchiha-censt (no really it’s NOT healthy and is never written healthy cause their relationship is damn close to squicky in canon so there's no real way to write it semi-healthy even in fandom) but at the same time I would never be able to stomach that sort of thing in real life be it my family, a friend’s family... hell when I see it on the news it’s just FREAKY and WRONG!

Does this make me a hypocrite... probably. Do I gave a shit? No so much.

I have read, written, and role played way too much and it might make me a little desensitized to it all but even I have shit I won't read (or watch). One word people SCAT. I just don’t have the WORDS to express the NO of that for me. Does this stem from having to change my baby brother’s diapers when he was an infant? NO, I don’t like it cause EWW… end of story. GAH people piss me off. This kind of shit is the stuff that makes me want to not write any more.

Tentacle sex freaks me the fuck out but it doesn't mean I was raped by an octopus! Cause that's just a stupid theory.

I can't even read it if two people who are no blood kin but were raised kin are getting after it.

Please tell me this asshat didn't preface their sermon with words to the effect that

1. You write things that squick people, so if you don't like all things that squick people, there's something wrong with you.

2. You wrote (insert scene here,) so you have no room to judge the aesthetic merits of incest.

To me, #1 is tautological mental masturbation and #2 is just trolling dressed up as litcrit. Or maybe hypocrisy. It's hard to tell sometimes.

Preach sister! I love fandom but I do not want to read rape, excessive torture or incest. I avoid Jensen/Jarad fics in Supernatural like the plague. I cannot see Kirk/Sam and Spock and Spock Prime...Really? I am sure there are some very good stories out there but I cannot think about people that are related or alternate selves getting it on. Sue me!

We are all allowed our opinions as long as we are not pointing the finger at someone and criticizing them directly. Not everyone has the same taste in reading.

I agree with you wholeheartedly that sometimes people, however, need to be brought out into the light when they are being shady in the shadows.

I think posting the email with address included is a wonderful idea. Sometimes one must be humiliated to learn humility.
