Well,

My site is moved and I'm VERY AWARE of the fact that all of the links are broken on my pages. I didn't even cry when I realized the new file structure changed all of the names of the pages and posts.

I'm working on correcting the links. Please hold off on reporting link failure until I've had time to do my own work on this front. You'd be STUNNED to realize how many links are broken so I'm working through one section at a time.

Keira

Well, at least the shock of getting a 404 where I expected The Return woke me up completely. ;)

I always love your work

Fortunately, I have the ebook versions that are currently available already downloaded. I'm trying to figure out how to hide a collection on my Kindle, as it turns out some co-workers have no boundaries at all and I'm still not totally comfortable with being a slash slut in a Fortune 500 office environment.

You're kidding, right?! People just pick up and read your Kindle? Sometimes you just want to ask people, "Where the hell where you brought up, exactly, and do you think your mother would be proud of you right now?" Cripes.

So, huh. Can you actually password lock the Kindle? I hadn't thought about it before, but it seems like an important feature suddenly. You have co-workers... I have teenagers... it could get ugly.

K, sorry for hijacking the thread a bit, but -- just -- wow.

The first time someone picked it up, there didn't happen to be porn of any kind on it. When I'm "packing," as it were, I take a little more care to secure the Kindle in my purse when not reading. I've yet to meet even the most hardcore techno-geek slavering under a toy imperative who had enough of a deathwish to go into a woman's purse. Not sure why technology is any different.

Thank you! I did not know that.

I work with a lot of techno-geeks under a strong toy imperative. It was worse when Kindles were new, but now they're usually just looking for all the ways their tablets are better, then the whole thing derails into the Apple fanatics ripping on the Android fanatics.

Wow, if you figure that out, please let me know--I've got the same problem, except with my kids! "Mom, are you reading Harry Potter?"

"Uh, kinda? Honey I think your brother is setting your dolls on fire!"

Phew!

I could lock the whole thing down, but it's appealing to have one device I don't need a password for. All of my other toys are for official use through my network support jobs and have a level of security that approaches paranoia.

Lead me not into temptation...

I laughed pretty hard imagining the expressions your average toy-driven techno-geek would have to that collection on any Kindle, let alone mine. You and naughty and an instigator and a contributor to the delinquency of faux-respectable middle-aged ladies and I adore you for it.

My suggestion was going to be a folder titled "Tax Accounting".

See now this would just make me MORE nosy. Not because I think that's interesting but because I'd be like CLEARLY THIS IS WHERE THE PORN IS HIDDEN!

I honestly don't know what would put people off the most. I would personally NOT be able to resist a folder named "religious propaganda" - laugh of the day - but snoopers would probably slobber all over a chance to look at your money. (Would probably work as a charm against teens, though.)

Keira! Thanks for the headsup! Good luck with the links!

I'm thinking "SAT Prep Materials" would keep the teens far away from it.

*dies* That is just... wickedly awesome, and would probably terrify the people I know if they saw it on one of my devices!!! I'LL DO IT!!

Upon reflection...

I'm seriously considering titling the collection "homoerotic smut that probably infringes copyrights" just to see how many techno-geeks look at it. Of course, that rather negates the whole concept of being shy about slash slut-ism in public, but it's late and I'm (see icon)

Make one of those sections and call it "Religious Propaganda" and then file all of your slash titles in it.

Seriously, would that have worked on you as a kid? If my kids found "Religious Propaganda" on my Kindle, they'd probably want to have me committed! That is, until they read further, discovered it's really all kinds of lovely smut... aaaannd I really don't want to go any further into imagining that scenario! They're easily old enough to find whatever porn or anything else they want to on the 'Net -- I just don't want to know about it, and I'd rather they not know about mine.

Maybe a folder called "SAT Prep Materials" would do it...

I have people pick up mine all the time. My husband works at a family restaurant and some of the older ladies pick it up to look at it. I have the text on the smallest setting so usually they can't read it.

The one who could laughed at me reading smut in a public placed and told me that I was brave and she liked me for it.

I was in a scene from Ties that Bind, I can't remember which scene

First, good for the one lady who could read it!

Second, it's the font size that's going to do me in. I was one of those people who resisted the Kindle because books did it for me, all it would do is let me read books (I was unaware of the web surfing capabilities) and because the e-books couldn't be lent or traded at a used bookstore.

Then I had eye drama. The resizeable font is no longer a luxury and now anyone can pretty much glance over my shoulder and see what I'm reading. During regular business hours, I tend to play Scrabble (see? Kindles do way more than provide a reading platform) and wait until everyone else has cleared out to read the good stuff.

So *hugs*

Yeah, now I just need the $15 to do it. Shouldn't take me long, been getting lots of over time at my job.

When I first set up my LJ years ago, it was supposed to be separate from my fics, then none of my friends were on LJ and only my fic ones were so I just starting using it for that. DarkJediQueen has been my fic name since I starting posting my fic online over ten years ago. Still love it so much!

Update!
