Everyone has plot bunnies--even awesome, rather verbose writers like myself. Of course, I have bunnies in various stages of being written but these are ideas that I haven't actually written anything on.
AMTDI Plot Bunny (because every Stargate author needs one)
I have this idea about John and Rodney being forced to have sex and afterwards McKay is all amused and not put out and John just becomes literally obsessed with what they did to the point where he can't even masturbate without thinking about McKay's ass. Eventually, during a movie night, John just explodes from all of his angst and confesses his lurid, filthy, obscene masturbation fantasies--in detail. And Rodney's response is: "Can we do all of those tonight or will you have to pace yourself?"
And my other DADT fic Plot Bunny
I want to write a DADT story where the policy gets repealed and everyone stops pretending they think John is straight and tries to get him to confess his man-love for McKay -- only John really had no idea he was IN LOVE WITH MCKAY and he freaks out and Rodney is not amused. And everyone is stunned the two of them weren't having a big, torrid, gay love affair for YEARS. Even Jennifer is half-convinced she was Rodney's beard when they dated before she got a clue and dumped him because she thought McKay was breaking John's heart.
The Fuck Plot Bunny
Where in John says "fuck it" and Rodney says "fuck you" and they both trot off in different directions after the Ancients kick them off Atlantis only to end up "retired" and teaching at the same damn university six months later. John hasn't really forgiven Rodney for Doranda and Rodney thinks John is a sorry bastard and doesn't give a shit if he's forgiven. Their students decide that they are epically in love with each other because they argue all the time and keep trying to set them up on dates with each other. Also? They keep meeting up and having angry, I hate you sex with each other then making excuses for their poor self-control and blaming each other for their seriously twisted, hot but fucked up relationship. Eventually, the SGC rescues the students from their fucked upness and recalls them to the Atlantis mission but John doesn't want to return to the Air Force so they make him the leader of the whole thing since Elizabeth got married and got herself knocked up while they are all being fucked up on Earth. So, then John and Rodney are back in Pegasus--still having "I hate you" sex and they live angerily ever after.
The Ascension Plot Bunny
Where in John and Rodney accidently ascend together but the Ancients hate Rodney and keep trying to seduce John to what Rodney calls the Dark Side and McKay is pretty pissed that his ascension is being intruded upon by a bunch of Ancient whores who can't keep their tentacles to themselves. John takes to spying on the Expedition and new military CO keeps pissing him off so he kind of sort of starts haunting the man which isn't technically against the rules but it's heavily frowned upon by everyone but Rodney. Eventually, the Ancients can't take John's disobedience and Rodney's sarcasm anymore so they kick them out and send them back to Atlantis with their memories intact on the condition that the next time they die---they absolutely cannot ascend again.
Rodney has to admit his EPIC Love for John Plot Bunny (And finally my favorite plot bunny and I actually have some of this written)
John touches something off world and he gets sucked into a device and he can only be pulled from the ancient machine by someone who really, truly loves him.
And because I'm evil... here is an excerpt:
“What do you mean you can’t open it?” Teyla demanded. “You will drop this force field immediately, Administrator Warreh.”
“It’s not that simple,” Warreh tucked his hands behind his back. “The Guardian has taken Colonel Sheppard within its embrace and he will only release him when his one true mate comes for him.”
“Oh you’ve got to be fucking kidding me,” Evan Lorne hissed. He reached out and pressed the large panel next to what looked like a part of a stasis unit but nothing happened and then looked at his CO. “Colonel Sheppard?”
“I heard, Major.” John leaned against the wall. “Go get McKay and have him take the Guardian apart. I don’t want to miss dinner—there is going to be carrot cake.”
- - - - -
It had taken five seconds for them to realize that taking off the panel to the control system was a very bad idea. By the time he got it back on, John was on the ground behind the energy field and his body was still shaking from the shock he’d received.
“New plan, McKay!” He ground out through clenched teeth.
Rodney turned to the Administrator Warreh and took note of the smug expression on the man’s face. “One true mate, huh?”
“Yes. The unattached women of my people have agreed to make themselves available to Colonel Sheppard.”
“I’m sure they have,” Teyla’s mouth pressed into a firm line. “You did this on purpose. I should warn you and all of your people—even if one of the women on this planet is able to free Colonel Sheppard he will not be staying here and he will not be consummating a union.”
“He won’t have a choice,” Warreh returned evenly. “The Guardian will link him and his mate for life. He will have no choice but to stay with her. If he leaves her or fails to consummate their union—he’ll die.”
Teyla looked at John who had rolled to sit with his back against the wall. His eyes were dark with fury and pain. “Fine, I will contact Atlantis and before we allow a single woman from your people to approach the Guardian—all the women on Atlantis will take a turn.”
Warreh’s mouth dropped open. “No, I won’t allow this.”
“Ronon,” Teyle turned and met her team mate’s gaze. “Administrator Warreh isn’t cooperating.”
The sharp hum of Ronon’s gun engaging was enough to make the color wash out of the man’s face. “I think he’ll change his mind.”
“Yes.” Warreh nodded. “After all, there can be only one.”
John groaned and Rodney snorted. “Only you, John.”
- - - - -
“Tell me what to do,” Samantha Carter said as she stepped in front of the Guardian.
“If you are the true mate, you should be able to reach through the energy field and pull your man free.” Warreh offered from the sidelines where he was tucked in next to a still very irritated Ronon.
Sam flushed. “Well, shit.”
John just laughed. “Colonel.”
“Colonel.” Sam took a deep breath. “I just had to be in Atlantis orbit, huh? We’ve already tried to beam you out but have had no luck.” She pressed her palm against the field and smiled just a little when John put his hand on the field on from the other side. “Well, okay, then. That’s good because this would have been a regulations nightmare.”
John grinned. “Yeah, but we would’ve had really pretty kids.”
Evan Lorne snorted from his place beside the Guardian as Sam Carter took a step away and was beamed back aboard the George Hammond. Every woman on the ship and on Atlantis who wasn’t already in a relationship had agreed to try to free Sheppard. Sam was the first to come down.
Laura Cadman appeared in Sam’s place thirty seconds later. “Good afternoon, sir!” She saluted smartly and John groaned.
“Cadman, if it’s you—I think I’ll have to spank you or something.”
Laura grinned. “Don’t tease me, sir.” She pressed her palm against the field where John had left his hand. “Aw, and here I was looking forward to getting an Air Force Colonel for my birthday.”
“Thanks for the effort, Captain.”
“No problem, sir.” She paused and then grew serious. “We’re not letting these people keep you, sir. Not happening.” She took a step back and signaled that she was ready to return to the ship.
Another woman took her place, a civilian scientist from the George Hammond’s crew. “Dr. Susan Moore, engineering.”
“Pleasure to meet you, Dr. Moore.” John took a deep breath as she tried to press into the field. “And thank you for agreeing to try.”
She leaned in briefly. “We are studying this device with Dr. McKay. Each woman who comes down to try it gives us more data. We aren’t giving up.”
“Thank you,” John whispered and he meant it. He’d already been behind the Guardian field for five hours and McKay had worked hard the entire time trying to figure out how to open it.
Two hours later and there were no more women left from their own personnel to try and John faced his first female from Maloria. She approached and John immediately protested.
“Administrator Warreh, she’s a child.”
“She is of a mating age on our world, Colonel Sheppard.”
John backed away from the field. “She can’t be more than fourteen years old. Absolutely not.”
Teyla stepped between the young girl and the Guardian. “Administrator Warreh, it’s a violation of Colonel Sheppard’s moral principals and beliefs. We must request that you allow no females under the age of twenty-four of your years to approach the Guardian.”
“Very well, but you must understand it will cut down his chances of being freed from the field. Under most circumstances a man only enters the Guardian when he is positive his true mate is on hand. How long can your Colonel go without food or water?”
Ronon growled and Teyla’s frown deepened. “You’ve heard our terms, Administrator. See to it.”
Two hundred women came through the temple and each went away disappointed and resentful.
Rodney had returned to the surface and was standing with Teyla. They were discussing options: none and trying to determine what they should do next. He knew they’d tried to beam in food and water without success.
“Warreh, what haven’t you told us about the Guardian?” Rodney demanded. “You’ve already destroyed any chance of an alliance with our people but if I don’t get some honesty from you soon, I will be forced to discuss our military options with the ship we have in orbit.”
“The Guardian has been with our people for a very long time. It only works for a select few and those matched normally take leadership roles in the community. It’s a great honor to have the Guardian chose you for a true match.”
“The ATA gene?” Teyla asked softly.
“Several of the women who came down had the gene, Miko’s is very strong. Not as strong as John’s but strong—“ Rodney took a deep breath. “I need to explore the rest of this complex and God help me, get an anthropologist down here.” He walked away from Teyla and went to stand in front of the Guardian. “We’re going to do some research. How are you holding up?”
“Good.” John stretched and rocked back on his heels. “This planet has a lot of single women.”
“No, this planet has a lot of women who would be willing to leave their husband for a shot at you,” McKay corrected. “We’re going to bring down a research team. I can’t believe the Ancients would build something like this much less build something like this without some kind of fail safe.”
“They suck a lot, McKay, you know that.”
“Well, I don’t think it’s some Ancient version of the Dating Game.” Rodney rubbed the back of his neck. “Which reminds me… Jennifer and I have discussed it and she’s going to come down and try.”
“No.” John shook his head. “The two of you are… well… you’re something right?”
“Maybe but we both agree that whatever we are isn’t worth your life.”
John took a deep breath. “What is the likelihood that he’s right and who ever pulls me out of this is going to have some mating bond with me?”
“Slim to none. I think they use it to encourage fidelity and maybe lower the the chances of a divorce of those in their leadership.”
- - - - -
Three hours later, McKay was pretty sure that the Ancients were the most fucked up, evil, moronic beings to have ever existed in the entire universe. He could have written a dissertation on just how fucked up they were and the only thing stopping him was that it might have actually gotten him a notice in a field like sociology or something equally horrific.
Jennifer had come down along with four other women that were already in relationships and they hadn’t been successful either. He hadn’t been bothered remotely by the idea that Jennifer was willing to risk a life bond with Sheppard, in fact he’d been a little more peeved at the thought of her getting John than John getting her. Right now he was about to do something that would break the biggest, most serious promise he’d ever made to himself.
They’d cleared the temple out so it just their team, Major Lorne, Colonel Carter and Administrator Warreh. He walked over to the Guardian and cleared his throat. “So, Dr. Banks has translated a good portion of the temple wall and the Malorians mostly have it wrong. The Guardian is not some Ancient matchmaker. It doesn’t help people come together in some true pairing but what it does do is allow those who have descended from the Ancestors the opportunity to prove to their partners that they are serious and committed to their relationship. This is done by putting one of the partners into the Guardian and then the remaining partner reaches in and pulls out their loved one. In doing this, they are both ‘changed in body and soul’ and are forever linked.”
“Jesus.” Carter rubbed the back of her neck. “Fail safe?”
“It is believed that the person going into the Guardian is better off dead if they come to realize the person they love does not truly love them in return.”
Teyla put her hand on the field. “I love John, why can’t I retrieve him?”
“It’s friendship,” Rodney murmured. “You love him like a brother, Teyla.”
“Several of the women who came down from the George Hammond are very enamored of the Colonel,” Teyla turned to Rodney. “They follow around after him like young girls… none of them?”
“You can’t really love someone unless you know them,” Sam murmured. Her eyes were clouded. “Rodney can we blow this thing up? Take out it’s power source?”
“Not without risking him,” Rodney shoved his hands into his pockets and stared at Sheppard through the field. “John.”
John sighed. “That’s your ‘serious we’re fucked’ face, McKay.” He walked to stand in front of the field. “Look, short term, find some way to get some provisions in here. I know you can figure this out.”
“This field… it’s boxed around you. I can cut the power or mess with the controls but it’ll probably kill you. It’s supposed to keep you safe… in it’s own way.”
“What do you mean?”
“The Guardian wouldn’t let just anyone remove you… it has to be the one.”
“The one.” John took a deep breath. “So it would kill me instead?”
“Yes, it would kill you rather than allow the mating of someone inappropriate.” Rodney cleared his throat. “Someone you didn’t want.”
“So you’re saying that I’m…” John took a deep breath. “That this partly because of me. I didn’t want any of those women so…”
“Yeah, it has be mutual. You can’t fake this thing out.”
John’s eyes darkened and his hands dropped to his sides. “Then we just spent fifteen hours testing the wrong side of the population.”
“I know,” Rodney inclined his head.
“How?”
“I’ve always known, John.” McKay took a deep breath. “So, you’re the best friend I’ve ever had in my life.”
“You don’t have to…” John’s words were cut off when McKay unceremoniously reached into the field and jerked him right out by his tac vest. “Jesus, McKay.”
“Hold on, this next part probably isn’t going to be all that pleasant,” Rodney snapped just before the Guardian took them both.
- - - - -
John woke up in the infirmary on Atlantis. Ronon was sitting in a chair beside the bed. For a few seconds, John just stared at the younger man confused and a little irritated not to remember why he was in a freaking infirmary bed. “McKay?”
“Asleep, Teyla is with him.” Ronon leaned forward. “Woolsey and Carter have been in meetings since we got back and there have been four databursts to the SGC in that time. We were kind of worried you wouldn’t wake up for a while there.”
John tried to sit up and then groaned at the pain that swept over his entire body. “What the fuck?”
“Keller said it was something like some kind of electrocution only not.” Ronon reached out and tapped a bracelet on John’s wrist. “Also, you got some interesting jewelry out of it.”
John looked down at the bracelet and frowned. He touched it and it warmed against his fingers. “This looks like naquadah.”
“It is, sort of. It’s naquadah and something else. They haven’t tried to remove them. Dr. Banks has been translating the rest of the temple. It’s pretty clear that the bracelet is meant to be permanent.”
John fingered the dark metal and it slid easily on his skin. It was a snug fit, but not uncomfortable. If he were honest, it wasn’t like it wasn’t even there or maybe that it had always been there. “I can’t believe…”
“Yeah.” Ronon laughed. “You wouldn’t believe the chocolate and DVDs that have exchanged hands in the past four hours. Radek won the pool.”
“What pool?” John frowned.
“The one that said one or both of you would out yourselves on a mission because of a life or death situation.” Ronon frowned at him. “I personally had my entire Die Hard collection on a sex ritual.”
John chuckled. “I’ll buy you a new set.”
“With all four movies,” Ronon said and crossed his arms.
“Yeah, all four movies. I would’ve bet on an alien sex ritual, too.” John sighed. “Jesus Christ. How is Keller doing? I mean, she is dating Rodney.”
“She tried herself to get you out—so I don’t think they are so serious.” Ronon shrugged. “Or maybe she knew that he was in love with you.”
“He’s not…” John trailed off because he couldn’t even tell that lie. If McKay hadn’t been in love with him he would have never been able to pull him out of the Guardian. If he hadn’t wanted Rodney back just as much… he’d still be stuck behind that field. He touched the bracelet, his fingers sliding over the Ancient words that were carved into it. “Did someone translate this?”
“Yeah,” Ronon chuckled. “It’s a marriage pledge. You and McKay got married.”
John dropped back against the pillows and closed his eyes. His career burst into flames in his mind and he took a deep breath. “Amazing.”

“Amazing.”

Date: 2011-08-24 10:52 am (UTC)I really, really like the one you wrote an excerpt for - I have a thing for bonding fics, and this fandom doesn't have enough of them. But I also really like your "Fuck Plot Bunny", but I admittedly love the idea of John and Rodney working at a university, tormenting students and bitching at each other. Hell yeah.
The Ascention Plot sounds hilarious, and I really like your DADT plot too.
Basically, I love your brain.

And all your plot bunnies made me laugh out that I think my collegues are looking at me funny.
But thanks, your community is kind of the only slash story site I still follow, and I really love your rants, musings and snips of life.

Date: 2011-08-24 12:29 pm (UTC)and the stuff you already made from it...it's delicious
I'm all for the sudden bondings putting the characters together, so many possibilities
will you actually be writing these (more of this last one), or are they more along the line of 'really crazy ideas that so should be written but I don't have time'?

Date: 2011-08-24 01:21 pm (UTC)I have to agree the Ascension and DADT plot bunnies also seem very promising. I can just see John boggling at the fact that pretty much EVERYONE considers him to be the gayest man in Atlantis. No really, Rodney is rather aggressively bi -- YOU'RE the gayest one here.
I can't say the fuck plot bunny appeals to me, but I'm confident you could make me want to read it.
Thanks for the tease.
