I'm all bitchy. No, really. I'm sure it's probably related to the fact that I'm on my period (sorry for the TMI but not really I mean, you're reading my journal so you get what you get).

A few weeks (months?) back CP did an epic rescue of a box of discs I had of old stuff I wrote and I found some Harry/Hermione fan fiction that I wrote in college. I've been playing with it, shaping it up and what not. None of it is finished and one of them as 180k (so far). I found a Wesley Crusher fic (Star Trek) that will never ever in a million years see the light of a day AND a Sam/Jack (SG1) that is even worse. I have discovered, however, that following Wil Wheaton on Twitter has ruined my adolescent fantasies about him because he's really rather a dork. A funny dork but a dork nonetheless. His bromance with John Barrowman (which he ships, I do not) is pretty funny.

I'm considering posting my Harry/Hermione fic but I'm emotionally vulnerable right now due to my period and I'm not sure I could handle the stupid, ridiculous emails and comments about het being "gross". Seriously. I like to read slash. I obviously like to write it. But I really don't fucking appreciate being told the sex that I actually regularly engage in is "gross". I don't like to judge people for their kinks and for the most part I refrain (except when i don't: incest and bestiality) but it really bothers me to be told this. ESPECIALLY by women who have implied or professed to be married to a man themselves.

But you know what? I don't appreciate hearing it from anyone. I don't tell gay people the sex they have is gross and I wouldn't even if I thought it. This whole het vs. slash thing in fandom is frankly the biggest and most irritating situation I come across.

I get called a misogynist by some cunt who didn't bother to read the entire series (Tangled Destinies) who had the fucking audacity to actually warn another reader to avoid my SGA work based on her half-assed opinion of ONE story in a series of TEN in a situation that is actually based on the canon relationship between Sarek and Amanda. But whatever, okay? I don't even remember her LJ user id because that's how little she matters in the scheme of things. BUT, that situation isn't nearly as irritating as being told that het sex is "gross".

I have an asshole email me and question my mental well being because of the sadism in Ties That Bind. They write a 9,876 word email detailing all the things that are wrong with ME because of John's sadism in a FICTIONAL story. This person didn't have a thing to say about the cold blood murder in What Might Have Been and Sentinels of Atlantis. The violence doesn't make them blink an eye or question my sanity but John getting off on spanking someone is such a cause for alarm that I think they actually got out a DSM V to back up their backward, foolish, uneducated, and foul opinion of someone they've never met and never will meet. And, honestly, fuck you Freud. BUT, that situation isn't nearly as irritating as being told that het sex is "gross".

I get new readers every day. I get new members to my site every day as well. I seduce readers into reading fandoms they've never read before. Recently someone who came to read Harry Potter on my site confessed that I sucked her into the Star Trek fandom. That's cool. When a new reader contacts me--they inevitably ask when I'll be updating again. Sometimes this question irritates me but that's really only when it is the only thing I get from a reader. I don't mind such a question couched around a bit of flailing and genuine thanks for the entertainment I've already provided them. However, even when I only get a whiny ass comment about my slow updating or an email with one sentence demanding to be notified personally when I update TTB... that's not nearly as irritating as being told het sex is "gross".

I don't solicit feedback. I'm never going to ask for it. I'm never going to blackmail you for it. I like getting it. Sometimes when I'm feeling all down and under appreciated in real life, I go to my site and browse through the comments. It's nice. I get awesome feedback. I'm obviously a self-promoter. I mean it would be difficult to claim otherwise when I have my own site, a facebook, and a twitter and a chatroom. Which reminds me... if you come into my chat room don't be surprised or shocked if I actually show up. That's my shit and I'm in there a couple of times a week. Sometimes I just watch others chat while I work on stuff and sometimes I get in there and bitch myself blue in the face. Don't buy into that BNF crap, please. I think it's bullshit. I have a whole post about how much bullshit I think it is. And honestly, if you meet someone who proudly claims to be a Big Name Fan -- run from them.

You know, just remember-- I'm just a girl. Standing (sort of) in front of a reader. Not giving a shit if you like me or not.

Well I'd certainly ready your Harry/Hermione fic. That's actually a fandom where I read more het than slash these days and even if it wasn't I trust you and your work and will read just about anything you put out there. Honestly you got me to not only read Ronon/Keller, but to LIKE Keller and that's some serious mind voodoo right there.

Ignore the idiots (I know easier said than done). If all else fails you could password protect the fic in question and only give out passwords to those Minions that you know wont be asshats about the whole thing.

I don't understand why you even bored to read those jerks pamphlets.
There are tags and warning on your fics, if they can't read a resumé, well fuck them.

Will Wheatom bromance with John is adorable, follow both.

Looking forward for whatever you want to give to us *cough* TTB *cough* ROF *cough* I'm subtle enough.

Just for you let know, i'm going to play a mermaid and seduct you into some Sparty stuffs, be warned, it's on the way for this WE perhaps.

Love you.

As a girl who is also on her period, my cramps feel you and your current emotional hardship. (Ugh, if the football players down the hall yell the 'N' word at each other ONE MORE TIME I'm just going to...)

Anyway, as much as I am a huge slash fangirl, I would love to read your Harry/Hermione fics. Because I too think this fetishizing of gay relationships is ridiculous. Yes, I would personally never want to see John Sheppard with a female because my head canon is that he's gay and if he is indeed gay then his perfect match, to me, is Rodney. However, Harry to me has always been bisexual and I will read Harry/Luna, Harry/Hermione, and even good Harry/Ginny (though they are rare) fics, as much as I read Harry/Draco, Harry/TMR, etc. So what I'm trying to say is, I'm really excited about the idea of having more Keira fics and I frankly think they'll be just as awesome being het as your slash fics are. After all, you write het in your slash fics and that never turns me away.

You're fantastic, I worship you, I aspire to be as prolific a writer as you, and thank you for existing. (Or maybe I should thank your mother?) ;D

I mainly read slash but it's not because I dislike het, it's because more often than not I found slash better written than het. Not really sure why. Maybe because I feel the author works more on the characters motivations?

If you decide to post you're Harry/Hermione fic I will probably enjoy it because I found all of your stories to be engaging and well-written. But I'm pretty sure I will love it even more because for once, I will read a smart het fic where relationships are plotted and thought out.

I'm crossing my fingers now, hoping you will find the time (and the will) to post it even if it's in a few days/weeks/months. But if not, you will still be one of my favorite authors, with a very nice site where I can get lost for so many hours...

Thanks a lot for all you've shared.

getting back to what you posted about... hope you feel better soon and I am one seduced into other fandoms by you (and happy for it)...

ves.I don't understand thinking het is gross. One assumes most of these women are engaging in het sex themselves. I admit I don't read almost any het fanfic but it's not because I dislike het. I just got sucked into the slash side of fandom and I haven't run across many het pairings I like. I do read Neal/El/Peter from White Collar and I used to read Willow/Spike from Buffy several years ago. I also read as many het romance/erotica as I do gay novels.

Harry/Hermione isn't a pairing I ever read but I'm willing to give anything you write a try. I hope you decide to post it.

Dear Just A Girl,

I found your most recent Live Journal posting to be informative (per usual), inspiring (also, per usual), amusing, entertaining (see previous); but also disturbing.

Very disturbing, in retrospect.

"Het sex is gross" ???

You don't know this, but I've paused here for approximately twelve minutes while I try to formulate a response that adequately relates my confusion and dismay. Well... NOW you know.

You also know that I have a thing for run-on sentences. But, I digress.

"Het sex is gross" ??? WTF? It's readily apparent that a micro-sized portion of your readership is not only delusional, but prefer to live in their fantasy inspired escapism. I pity their husbands. The poor men are obviously never going to get laid again, unless they break their wedding vows. But again, I digress. You see, the most important aspect of this entire debacle is this: it's a micro-sized sampling of your readership.

Personally, as a viral and Dominant male, I cringe at the mere mention of 'micro-sized'. That just ain't right. Therefore, the term does not exist. For the purposes of your current irritation, the entire sub group also, does not exist. Quid Pro Quo, your irritation should abate soon.

I hope the above helps.

Signed: Devoted Dominant Fan

PS: When are you updating TTB?
:D

Haha I never apologise for talking about my period, mostly because I'm raging and it's an unnatural part of the female body. :)

I think the only irritating question I could ever ask you is if you'll write fanfic in *insert TV Show/Movie here*. I think the #1 reason I'll always follow you is you don't beg for reviews and #2 you don't write a summary and end it with, "sucky summary, details inside". That's just guaranteed to make me not want to read the story. I mean, the world is an intimidating place, but try to have a esteem about your story. If some asshat thinks it sucks, believe me sweetie, they'll let you know. And then you'll have three others defending you. The het and slash war just kills me with the irony that this group of people claims to be super tolerant until someone writes Harry Potter bumping uglies with Pansy Parkinson. Or that Kirk was born a girl and realised her body wasn't right and wants to become a boy (or vise versa w.e.). On Tumblr, I try super hard to avoid the drama the erupts from the different fandoms cause I'm just hear to watch the TV show. The meta some people write is pretty insightful, but please don't go on about how you're not going to watch Teen Wolf because Derek suddenly has a female love interest and he won't be with Stiles (IMO that pairing will take forever to be offical because Derek is a "little" screwed up from his last two relationships).

I love all your work. I've re-read your stories 3-4x or more. I watch my email and get way too excited when I see an update on your site, or to naked nano. I have watched shows simply because you wrote stories based on them. I have entered entire fandoms because of your stories.

Don't take their words to heart. You are a fantastic writer and I love that you write balanced story lines. That means that you write about love and sex regardless of the gender of the characters.

Anyway...thank you for the many hours of entertainment and feels!

I know that sometimes I will playfully tell you how sad I am that you haven't updated, but only because I love your writing. And that I think how many times I've reread your stories might be a bit creepy....
Now you've made me curious over this Crusher fic. The fact that you wrote one at all has me all sorts of curious.
I hope you feel better. You are made of serious awesome, and shouldn't worry about idiot mortals.

A well written story is what I love to read. It doesn't matter if it is slash or het. I started reading het romances and slowly moved into slash because they were better written, had more character developement and more of a plot. Het romances are starting to head back to an actual story instead of a wham-bam-don't-know-you plot.

For fanfic I actually fell in love with non-canon pairings, be they het or slash. These stories say something new and make the fandom grow.

Everything I have read of yours has been well thought out, wonderful characterization and extremely hot. Please continue to write where the muse takes you, because it leads to new and wonderful worlds to fall in love with.

Haters will always find something to hate, unfortunately they feel they have the right to drag everyone else down to their level.

It never ceases to amaze me that people have the time to write pages and pages of scathing diatribe about fictitious people doing fictitious things that they don't approve of. Seriously, who has that kind of free time? Where can I get some?

Also, childbirth is not pretty or fun. I've done it, but only to get some lovely scrummy newborn out of it. I then pretty much cursed their existence once they realized their service wasn't on tap anymore.

You seduced me into reading in the sentinel fandom.

You have generously shared your talent and time. Thank you.

So as a girl suffering the same monthly issue, I'm with you on the moody, sensitivity, pain + some "Chocolate where would I be without thee"

Personally I'd read the Harry/Hermione story from you :D But then you convinced me of the awesomeness that is the John/Rodney pairing + SGA fandom which I wasn't too into, lol. As for my reading preferences, I'm all over the map and often ship a single character with multiple other characters, each gives a different dynamic I think and my shipping isn't restricted by this weird het vs slash thing I run into in fandom. the whole one is gross or you can only like one of the two confuses me soooooo much. Just like my fandom reading is het, slash, 3+ etc, my reading of published books follows the same pattern. As long as I find the premises and characters engaging, I'm up for it :D

that's all that matters

I'll be honest - as a gay woman, I'm not really into het. I even go so far as to actively avoid it, sometimes even skipping the sex scenes of a well-written het fic. Of course, I do the same with a lot of slash.

That said, I read your sex scenes because, well, they aren't gross or even really vulgar. Seriously, you have made me question my sexuality once or twice with your sex scenes. I will admit I like your rare femmeslash better, but hey, when you find an awesome author, you don't stop reading her work because she likes guys.

"...Het sex is gross." *blinks* *tilts head in confusion* Do these people not realize that without het sex/het pairings that they never would have been born? Never mind; moving away from the idiocy of a portion of humanity.

If you post your Harry/Hermione fic, I would certainly read it because I know that you write stories that are engaging to the reader.

PS: I'm one of the readers you seduced into reading a pairing I never would have read about. When it comes to the Star Trek: AOS, I am a firm Spock/Uhura shipper, yet I enjoyed reading your Spock/Kirk fic series.

I would love to read your Harry/Hermione story because you develop characters in a way that is *believable*! Too often, I've read stories where the characters suddenly become superpowered in a way that I'm completely shaking my head at. Because of Tangled Destinies, I have gotten interested in the Star Trek Redux movies, and I have enjoyed not only your Harry Potter series but also Ties That Bind. Mostly, again, because of your character developments and how relationships have developed in a believable way.

Thank you for that.

Straight women who think Het sex is gross?

Maybe they aren't doing it right.

Really they need to read more Het fics to get some pointers :)

What I love most about the universes you create is how inclusive they are. Mainstream fiction for sale takes the 'safe' option and shows a het only world where gay characters are often sexless side-kicks. Gay original fiction and fanfic sometimes reverses this and offers a world where everyone is gay.

I love that in your universes there are m/m, f/f and m/f pairings. That sense of equality and celebration of loving relationships is something I'd like to see in more fiction. It's part of the reason I keep coming back to your writing again and again. As well as the fact that you are a truly brilliant writer and constantly create characters and worlds I fall in love with.

I would happily read any pairing and fandom you chose to write about and consider myself damn lucky that you chose to share it with us.

... Het sex is gross? Wow. Apparently I've missed something, and I'm glad of it, lol. I would definitely read your stuff, het or slash, because of the quality of writing and character development and the truly inspiring lovely and filthy ways you use those characters ;)

It's just odd that people would even say that - if it grosses you out, don't read it? I know stupidity is sometimes rampant in fandom, but I always believe this is the most ridiculous - the belief that all of fandom should bow to your whims and only produce what you want to read without anything that might possibly squick you out. They should learn to share their toys and grow the fuck up. Seriously.

Anyways, your fic is awesomely entertaining, and I'm sure your Harry/Hermione would be as well :) Here's hoping you feel like you can post it. And feel free to sic us all on any nuisance idiots that might pop up ;)
